White Adelie Penguin?

Wow. This is an amazing find. Michael S. Nolan, an award-winning wildlife photographer, has captured the images of an albino adelie penguin during his expedition to Antarctica. You can also feast your eyes on other photos he’s taken of the penguin population.

“Here on Devil Island in Antarctica we are treated to a rare sighting of a blond, or white, Adelie penguin! Often referred to as leucistic, isabelline, or albinistic this is a penguin that simply lacks the melanin of a “normal” Adelie and is much lighter in color and with a red beak instead of black. The really fun thing about this particular animal is that it is a parent to two normally colored (and VERY hungry) chicks! Sweet!”

Chilly Willy Music

I’ve been noticing in my referrer and search term logs that some people are getting to this blog by searching for “chilly willy penguin theme song” or something fairly similar. I believe I mentioned Chilly Willy in National Penguin Awareness Day so I looked around the vast Interweb. Hopefully I found what they’re looking for! Actually I found several versions of the Chilly Willy theme song. Just look behind the cut as there’s quite a few plus the lyrics.

Penguin Speakers

At first glance, these penguin-shaped speakers are kind of creepy looking but that’s half of what grabbed my interest. Their eyes move and go crazy to the rhythm of the music. Pretty cool to me although I’m still holding out for I-CY.

Your Personal Penguin

Tonight I picked up Your Personal Penguin by Sandra Boynton. After reading about this book and hearing the song at Workman Publishing’s web site, I just knew I had to get this book. The story is more like a short song where this little penguin wants to befriend this hippopotamus, telling it of all of the things they’d do together. It’s very a cute story and the very last page will make you go, “Aww…” Below I have linked the song that goes with the book which is sung by Davy Jones of The Monkees. After the cut, there’s a behind-the-scenes video of Davy singing the song. Totally amazing. Davy Jones was a perfect fit for this song. I absolutely recommend this book for any small child. My daughter has requested that I read/sing this to her every night.
